Vacant Storefronts Wanted

Urban Window Space Exhibitions proposes to reinvigorate a series of vacant storefront spaces in Chicago’s West/North-west side by hosting the HELLO my name is… art exhibition series for emerging artists. Through exhibition, we can revitalize Chicago neighborhoods by bringing in cultural and visual elements into empty business spaces. Urban Window Space Exhibitions aims to both give artists opportunities to exhibit, and to make available spaces more inviting and visible to would-be renters. Vacant storefronts can be a valuable resource to artists and arts organizations, and cooperating with local business owners to provide art exhibits is beneficial to all parties.These exhibitions will provide space owners high visibility to a diverse group of possible renters.

DETAILS

Urban Window Space Exhibitions is seeking 5-6 vacant storefront spaces for site-specific art installations. Spaces will need visible window or display space to house the artwork. Visitors will not enter into the space, but will view the art from the sidewalk. The HELLO my name is… show will bring visitors to the neighborhood for the exhibition span of one month. Artwork will have minimal impact on the space.

Urban Window Space Exhibitions requests minimal commitment from building owners:

·     Use of the space for one month in May/June 2010

·     Electricity and access to any existing lighting in the space

·     Access to thespace for installation and de-installation
