- Description: Engage students in ballet-themed and creative movement activities to teach dance and ballet basics such as basic terminology and core movement vocabulary. Create play-along ballet-themed stories and games. Use simple in-class craft projects to create simple costume pieces and props for a final performance.
- Location: Ashland and 125th St. in Calumet Park, IL (please consider your commute before applying!)
- Schedule:
- Programming will take place on Fridays from 2:30 to 5:30pm.
- Note: This program takes place in four sessions, each of which ends in a final (very simple) performance during the last class of the session. Some students will return for multiple sessions, but there will likely also be some new students in each session. Session Schedule follows:
- Session III: (New instructor is taking over mid-session) Mar. 19 to Mar 26, 2010. [last 2 weeks of a 7 week session]
- There will be no programming on April 2 or 9, 2010 (between sessions)
- Session IV: Apr. 16 to May 21, 2010. [6 weeks]
- Session III: (New instructor is taking over mid-session) Mar. 19 to Mar 26, 2010. [last 2 weeks of a 7 week session]
- Class Size: 26 students.
- Other:
- A classroom assistant is provided and will assist new instructor with the transition from the previous instructor.
- Previous instructor will provide sample lesson plans as well as suggestions of games, activities, and crafts and will be available by email for several weeks following transition to answer questions and assist new instructor.
- The BAC will provide tutus for students to wear in class (students do not keep tutus).
- Each class includes a “snack break.” Instructor will be responsible for bringing juice and a snack (ie. Cookies, fruit, granola bars) to each class. Cost of snacks is included in your class budget.
- There is a budget of approx. $25 per week to cover snacks and class supplies (budget will be given as a lump sum (ie. $200 per 8-week session) to give you a little more flexibility in planning and purchasing snacks and materials. Instructor will purchase materials and be reimbursed.
- Instructor should expect to bring boom box to play music—school will not provide.
- Instructor will also have access to BAC costume and prop stocks to augment budget.
- What we are looking for in an instructor for this class: Creativity, an ability to “roll with the punches,” and above all else the ability to maintain discipline using positive language and a calm demeanor. These kids will be coming out of a long day of school into a long after-school program. In your cover letter, please address how you would break up the 3-hour period to keep kids active and engaged in activities throughout.
