After-School DanceInstructor to teach Modern,African, and/or Hip-HopDance for Grades 6-8 in Calumet Park, IL

·        Description:  This is a three-hour classof mostly beginners, so the instructor can cover 2-3 dance forms.  Thereis a budget for the class so the instructor can purchase a weekly snack for thestudents to take a snack break as well as supplies for costume-craft projectsthat the students can use for the final performance (we can help with craftideas if you are more of a dancer than a crafter!).  A suggested classoutline is provided below, though we welcome your suggestions/changes to theproposed plan.

·        Location:  Ashland and 125th St.in Calumet Park, IL (please consider your commute before applying!)

·        Schedule:

o    Programmingwill take place on Fridays from 2:30 to 5:30pm.

o    Classes will begin on Fri, Mar 19, and endon Fri, May 21, 2010.

  •  
    • PERFORMANCE will take place during or immediately following the last class of the session.
  • Suggested Class Outline:
    • 2:30-2:45pm: Free dance or a simple activity that students can do as they arrive.
    • 2:45-2:55pm: Warm-ups and/or a group dance game
    • 2:55-3:25pm: Study dance form “A””
    • 3:25-3:40pm: Bathroom Break, Snack
    • 3:40-4:10pm: Study dance form “B”
    • 4:10-4:40pm: Costume craft project (making something they can wear for performances)
    • 4:40-5:10pm: Work on a student-choreographed dance (or continue work on teacher-choreographed work in either dance form)
    • 5:10-5:30: Games, free-dance time, clean-up, get ready for departure.
  • Class Size:  Class size is TBD depending on student registration, but will be a maximum of 20 students.  School may expand registration to 30 students, but in that case a classroom assistant will be provided by the school.
  • Other:
    • The  budget is $150 to cover snacks and class supplies.  Instructor will purchase materials and be reimbursed.
    • Instructor should expect to bring boom box to play music—school will not provide (can be purchased out of class budget if necessary).
  • What we are looking for in an instructor for this class: Creativity, an ability to “roll with the punches,” and above all else the ability to maintain discipline using positive language and a calm demeanor.  
  • Pay: $25-$35/hr, BOE.
